About Nanthan

I am Satha Nanthan Letchumanan, professionally known as Nanthan - a London-based conceptual fine art photographer. My work is rooted in themes of identity, vulnerability, and resilience, using portraiture as a way to hold space for stories that are too often overlooked.

My path into photography wasn’t straightforward. I began in aviation, but after losing both my parents, the camera became a way to process grief and find meaning. What started as a personal act of survival grew into a lifelong commitment to the arts. In 2022, I earned my MA in Photography at Arts University Bournemouth, where I honed both my conceptual vision and technical craft.

Since then, my work has begun to find its place in the wider conversation. My debut series, Midlife Crisis: The Emotions, was exhibited at Boomer Gallery in London and featured in publications including Attitude Magazine, Dodho, and HeadsUpGuys. Recognition has come through nominations and longlists, including the Head On Photo Awards (Australia) and ArtEvol at Saatchi Gallery (London).

My current project, Bodies Without Labels, explores intersectional identity and has already gained attention through features in Attitude Magazine and a critical review in FAD Magazine by London art critic Tabish Khan. More importantly, it’s becoming a platform for dialogue: I’m working with LGBTQ+ networks and mental health organisations to shape it into a socially engaged project with real impact.

For me, photography is not only about making images—it’s about creating bridges between people, experiences, and emotions.
